St. James Spring 2025 Newsletter

Happy Eastertide!

Despite the uncertainty in our nation and world, I hope you had a wonderful holiday filled with the hope and joy expressed in the resurrection.

I am excited as we prepare for the chapel’s 68th summer season. As we gather together, we will heed the wisdom of the Psalmist and make a joyful noise unto God. We will dig deep into the words of the Hebrew prophets and Jesus himself to discern our way in this wilderness. We have a great line-up of guest preachers, speakers and performers, including our new bishop The Rt. Rev. Julia Whitworth.

We also welcome our interim musician, Peter Kowsewski. A lifelong Episcopalian, Peter began piano study at age 7, sang in his first choir at age 9, did his first supply-organist’s gig at age 12, and took his first organist position at age 15. He has served as an organist at the Jesuit Urban Center and at St. Stephen’s (both in Boston’s South End), as interim parish musician for Trinity Church, Lenox, and in a variety of roles distributed over several decades at St. Mary’s in Provincetown. A retired communications officer from Harvard University, Peter and his husband, John Dennis Anderson, are year-round residents of South Wellfleet. Under Peter’s leadership, we will expand our musical range this summer, and will offer the opportunity for folks to join Peter at the Chapel on Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5 to gather with friends and explore some of the new music that we’ll be singing in worship.

Emily and I will be in residence Sunday, June 23 through Sunday, September 8. However, thanks to the generosity of local retired clergy, the Chapel will offer Sunday worship beginning on June 9 and ending on September 22. The St. James Summer 2025 Schedule accompanies this letter. For more information, check out our website at www.stjameschapelwellfleet.org

When we gather at the Chapel this summer, we will once again celebrate and reflect God’s work in our lives and the world around us. We will enjoy the gift of God’s creation, the blessing of Sabbath, the joy of community, and the abundance of food and drink. We will also seek to maintain the Chapel’s tradition of offering fifty percent of our annual giving to area non-profits who bring their own energy, generosity, and hope twelve months out of the year to a place we care so much about.

Please join us this Spring in making a gift to sustain the ministry of The Chapel and its witness to the goodness of God and the good work being done among God’s people in Wellfleet. And then, join us this summer for worship in a simple building with a simple table on a beautiful hillside on a spit of land sticking out into the sea.

Gratefully,

The Very Rev. Tracey Lind Priest-in-Charge
